Fees & your rights

Know what to expect
before care.

You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected health care costs if you are uninsured or are not using insurance.

Request an estimate

Ask for a written estimate of expected charges, including related items or services. You may request one before scheduling. Keep a copy to compare with your bill.

When you should receive it

  • For care scheduled 3–9 business days ahead, an estimate is due within 1 business day of scheduling.
  • For care scheduled 10 or more business days ahead, an estimate is due within 3 business days of scheduling.
  • If you request an estimate before scheduling, it is due within 3 business days of your request.

If your bill is higher

You may dispute a bill that is at least $400 above the estimate from that provider or facility. Visit CMS for the dispute process and applicable deadlines.
